As a new year approaches I wish for all of you a prosperous, peaceful, and risky new year. I wish for us all to risk more and cease playing it safe. Let's attempt a new dance filled with steps that challenge our footing. Let's go with balances that are precarious and require a constant state of motion. Let's continue to travel forward, sideways, and backwards. As one student mentioned last week, even going backwards is being in motion and going somewhere. Let's remember that to love is to risk not being loved in return. To live is to risk dying. To hope is to risk despair. To try is to risk failure. But risk we must, because a greater hazard would be to risk nothing. Only a person who risks is free. To the re-new year.
